Seventh teenager charged with murder of 15-year-old Deshaun James-Tuitt in Islington in 2022

A seventh teenager has been charged with the murder of 15-year-old Deshaun James Tuitt, at a park in north London.

Deshaun was stabbed to death in Highbury Fields, Islington, on August 4 2022.

Police and paramedics were sent to the scene where he was found with stab wounds, shortly before 9pm.

Deshaun was given treatment but despite the best efforts of medics, died in hospital a short time later.

A post-mortem examination found the cause of death to have been a stab wound, shock and haemorrhage.

Detectives have now charged a 16-year-old boy following a recent media appeal.

The teenager was arrested on Friday and appeared at Thames Magistrates' Court on Saturday morning.

He will next appear at the Central Criminal Court on Tuesday, February 20.

Deshaun's family have been informed.

In a statement issued during the recent police appeal, the family said: “Deshaun was a son, brother, nephew and cousin and the whole family are devastated by his death.

"We, as a family, understand that people are scared to come forward and speak to the police.

“We urge people to do the right thing. This is not an insignificant crime, it’s a murder and someone knows what happened that day.

“Justice won’t bring Deshaun back but at least we, as a family, can know what happened.

“We can’t stress enough how important it is to come forward if you have any information that can help the police.”

Six other boys, aged between 15 and 17, have all previously appeared in court charged with murder.

The Metropolitan Police said it is trying to trace another male who officers would like to speak to.

At the time of Deshaun's death, Chief Superintendent Andy Carter said: "This is an incredibly tragic case where a young man`s life has been ended prematurely despite the efforts of the police officers and LAS who arrived on scene very quickly.

"Deshaun had his whole life in front of him and that has now been cruelly taken away and our thoughts are with his family and friends who will be devastated by this loss.”
