Seventh attempted murder arrest after woman 'seriously burned' on Boxing Day

Police investigating a woman being seriously burned on Boxing Day have made two more arrests, bringing the total number of people arrested over the incident to seven.

The victim, a 38-year-old woman, suffered terrible burns to her hands, arm and neck while inside a flat on Derby Road, in Southport.

Emergency services rushed to her aid at about 8.35pm on December 26, 2019.

On Tuesday, January 28, police confirmed it had arrested two people on suspicion of attempted murder.

The pair, a 21-year-old man and a woman, 29, were arrested on Aughton Road.

Both have since been released under investigation, the force said.

Officers previously told the ECHO the woman remained in hospital one month after suffering the painful burns.

The latest arrests follow five others already made.

A 32-year-old man from Southport was previously arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on January 15.

He has been released under investigation.

Four other arrests were made last year, too.

A 59-year-old man from Southport and a 36-year-old man from Birkdale were both arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. They were released under investigation.

A 49-year-old man from Southport was also  arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He has since been released on conditional bail.

And a 40-year-old man from Southport was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He has since been released under investigation.
