Ella Austin, a seven-year-old pupil of St. Paul's Catholic Junior School has set about making a difference to the on-going conflict in Ukraine.
Ella, who lives in West Derby, had a conversation with her mum, Marie Austin, to explain all of her ideas for helping the families and to raise money. Marie said that Ella has made the family "very proud" and she is "amazed" by how much her daughter wants to make a difference in the world.
St. Paul's took a letter written by Ella and acted upon it immediately, sending the parents of the children a letter explaining they will be raising money for the crisis, and how they can get involved. The children were allowed to wear the colours of the Ukraine flag for the day on Wednesday [March 16] with donations going to help Ukraine.

Ella wrote the letter on Sunday evening, March 13, and passed it to her headteacher the following morning at school.
She told the ECHO : "I gave it to my teacher and she passed it onto the headteacher, once he read it he gave me a big hug. All my friends thought it was an amazing idea.
"It was like a normal day in school, but we got to do extra activities, like word searches that were Ukraine themed and stuff like that. I just wanted to help people in Ukraine. It is nice to help people, and when you help people, it feels nice as well."
Ella's mum Marie Austin said: "She has been talking about ideas to us over the past few days, ideas to help the families in Ukraine and to raise money. I asked her how she thinks we could get the school to get involved, and she suggested writing the letter.

"The school sent out a letter of how we can donate, the kids could bring a pound in and they all got to wear yellow and blue for the day. The money was set up to go through the church, and we could text to donate.
"As a family we are very proud of her, the fact that she has put her mind to it and voiced these ideas all by herself. I think it is brilliant how she wants to make a little change in the world, she makes us very proud, she is a little star."
She added: "They [the school] are going to make a bit of a fuss about it and she will be going in the school newspaper apparently. She wants to spread this word to other schools as well to hopefully get more of them to take part too."
Ella has even more ideas of how to help to raise money, she told the ECHO: "I want to set up making backpacks to send over to Ukraine, with food that you don’t need to cook, medical supplies and things like warm socks. We have learned about similar things to it in school, it is called Mary’s meals, and they send them over to Africa."
