Seven wine shops in busy markets of Chennai shut till August 9

CHENNAI: Seven liquor outlets in busy markets of the city have been shut down till August 9 because pandemic restrictions and social distancing norms were found violated.

The Tasmac shops are located on Mint Street in George Town, Bharathi Salai at Triplicane, Aminjikarai, Shenoy Nagar and three of them in West Tambaram.

“Liquor sale in these shops would be diverted to other liquor outlets in the vicinity,” an official said. Nearly 40 Tasmac elite shops largely located in malls and shopping complexes are operating in and around Chennai. However, there are no immediate plans to shut down all wine shops as a decision in this regard must be taken by the state government, official sources added.

When contacted, official sources with Tasmac said that all SOPs are currently being enforced in wine shops. The adherence to Covid norms is better in Tasmac wine shops when compared with other business establishments, a senior official added.
