When it comes to our wedding guest lists, we invite all our family and friends, and all their plus ones (even if we’ve only met them once at Susan’s 30th birthday dinner) - so why shouldn’t we invite our dogs too?
But then we have conundrums: do they sit with the guests? Are they involved in the wedding party? Will they enjoy the day?
Here are some of our favourite dogs who have had an invite to the wedding, and the roles they’ve played during the big day.
Bear, the ring bear-er
Bear the rescue dog had a stressful start to his human’s wedding day after an accident disrupted their travel. They had to park the car and run to the venue, but thankfully Bear was able to make it on time on the big day. He arrived at the wedding with half an hour to spare, giving him plenty of time to bring the rings down the aisle.
Man’s best friend
There’s a reason we call them man’s best friend, so why wouldn’t you have them by your side at the altar? Cash was a big boy and took himself down the aisle to join Dad on his wedding day. Clearly not in any rush, the adorable pup took his time greeting the guests individually and getting some pats before joining the wedding party.
Excited zoomies co-ordinator
This is one of the lesser-known roles of dogs at weddings, but nonetheless important. This golden pup just couldn’t contain his excitement at his Mum and Dad getting married. We love his enthusiasm but we suggest maybe not having an open fire-pit if your dog is one to take this role seriously...
Dog of honour
Daisy has the bridesmaid role down to a T with her co-ordinated harness and leash for this wedding. She fits in beautifully with her other gal-pals and even got the opportunity to be the witness to the signing of the register.
A bowow-quet
Who even needs flowers to get married? This bride swapped out her bouquet for her fluffy companion which thankfully was as white as her dress. We definitely recommend making sure your pup’s paws are clean for this one.
Hype girl
When your dog has always belonged to both parents, it’s not fair to make them choose a side. This family coordinated Pepper’s outfit with both the bride and groom (and it was made by the groom’s mum!) so she could celebrate the big day with both of them.
Quiet guest
Some pups just aren’t cut out for the bigger jobs, and that’s okay too. Gary and his owners tried to make the ring bearer role work at their wedding, but unfortunately Gary couldn’t quite grasp the task. Here we can see Gary having a tough time registering that the rings need to be kept safe as they make their way down the aisle. He still looks like he’s enjoying himself though.
