Seven things that have somehow all happened since Manchester United last scored from a corner

The last time a Manchester United player scored a goal from a corner came in a 2-1 defeat to Sheffield United on January 27, 2021. Harry Maguire was the player who scored it and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was still the manager - seems like a very, very, very long time ago, right?

Craig Dawson's own goal in the win over West Ham a few months after Maguire's effort technically meant United had scored from a corner, but it's been way too long since one of United's own did the honours.

Let's take a look at seven things that have happened since that momentous event.

Watford have had three managers

Let's start with one we all expected.

Watford have gone through quite a few managers since United last scored from a corner.

Vladimir Ivić narrowly missed out having been sacked in December 2020, but since then we've seen Xisco Munoz, Claudio Ranieri and now Roy Hodgson all take a seat in the Hornets dugout.

We're not really sure the Watford owners have ever heard of the term 'job security'.

Italy won the Euros

And England lost in the final.

After England's good run in the World Cup a few years prior, a lot of fans were cautiously optimistic heading into Euro 2020. Of course, this was quickly replaced by chants of 'It's Coming Home' and England fans ecstatically telling their mates that 2020 was our year.

Unfortunately, we should have known what was to come, and after Luke Shaw scored early on in the final, Italy went on to equalise before securing the trophy via a penalty shootout.

Wordle took over the internet

You know what Wordle is, even your mum knows what Wordle is.

It's the puzzle that has taken social media by storm. The design is simple but highly effective and provides you with a fun brain teaser to start the day (or something to get frustrated at when you can't think of a five-letter word that begins with Y at one o'clock in the morning).

Texas froze

A lot of football fans have joked that United would next score a corner 'when hell freezes over'. Well, in an almost as unlikely turn of events, Texas actually did freeze over. Yet still we wait for a United goal from a corner.

NFTs became a thing

I'm not going to try and convince you I know anything about blockchains or digital ownership and how this all applies to pictures of cartoon monkeys, but they're a thing and it looks like they're here to stay.

If you've been on Twitter for five minutes in the last few months you'll probably have seen one of your favourite celebrities with an NFT for a profile picture, and it seems footballers are now starting to get involved in the trend, with Shaw being the latest to release his own digital trading cards.

It's not for me but each to their own.

Mark Zuckerberg retreated into cyberspace...

I don't think anyone really expected to see Mark Zuckerberg preaching VRChat as one of the next steps in human evolution, but it actually happened.

The tech billionaire said that the Facebook Group were changing their name to Meta and starting to work on the Metaverse.

Demonstrations from different companies that wouldn't look out of place in Surgeon Simulator followed as Walmart showed how their customers would shop in digital space. Obviously clicking 'add to basket' was such a hassle.

Jeff Bezos went to actual space

Being the richest man in the world has got to have some perks and one day Jeff Bezos just decided he was wanted to go to space.

Having stepped down as Amazon chief executive, Bezos announced that he wanted to go to space and did just that - all before United have managed to score from a corner. It really is a little bit silly.
