Seven Spartan NFL hopefuls go unselected in 2019 Draft

This was a decidedly weak year for the Spartans in the NFL Draft. Justin Layne was the best hope by the program for a high draft pick, yet he slipped down to the third round before being drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Khari Willis was selected soon after in the fourth round by the Indianapolis Colts. That was it for the Spartans in the NFL Draft, no other players were drafted.

There were nine total Michigan State alumni who vied for the NFL Draft who will now have to try to land spots on a team this summer. They are as follows:

  • Felton Davis III (Signed by Chiefs)
  • David Beedle
  • Andrew Dowell
  • Matt Sokol
  • Gerald Owens
  • Jon Reschke

The next highest profile player coming out of MSU who went undrafted will be LJ Scott, who I expect to be signed in short order. As a Detroit sports fan, I think he’d look great paired next to Kerryon Johnson! Here’s hoping…
