Seven people rescued by lifeboat after they were cut off by the tide at Rhossili

Seven people were rescued by lifeboat after being cut off by the tide at a Gower beauty spot.

A volunteer crew at RNLI'S Horton and Port Eynon Lifeboat, made up of David Tonge, Rachel Hurford and Jordan Francis, sprang into action after receiving reports of the group, all visitors to the area, at Worm's Head in Rhossili.

The incident, which took place on Sunday, August 30, shortly before 2.30pm, saw seven people on rocks at the edge of the causeway.

Two members of the crew were put ashore and then guided the seven over the rocks to a point where the boat could pick them up.

Having been provided with masks they were taken back to the mainland in three groups, and handed over to Rhossili Coastguard.

An RNLI spokesman said: ‘If you are cut off by the tide do not attempt to swim to safety. It is extremely dangerous to attempt to do so.

"The RNLI would remind people when walking at or near the coast, not only to check the weather conditions, but also to check the tide times and to make sure that they plan walks to ensure that they are not cut off by the incoming tide.

"Despite the current difficulties of Covid-19 our RNLI volunteers continue to be on call all day every day. They are ready to deploy at the sound of the pager."
