Seven people fined after 'illegal gathering' at home

People from five different households were fined after gathering at an address in the early hours of the morning.

Officers from South Wales Police were called to the property in Tremgarth in the Wildmill area of Bridgend on Wednesday, April 21. Seven people from five different households were discovered at a "gathering" inside and were served with fixed penalty notices for being in breach of coronavirus legislation.

A tweet from the South Wales Police account covering Bridgend said that officers were alerted to the illegal gathering by Valleys to Coast, an affordable housing provider. It is not clear whether the property in question is managed by the company, however.

Under current restrictions, up to six people from two different households can meet outdoors in Wales. Although this is set to be relaxed on Saturday, April 24 to allow six people from any number of households to meet outside.

On Monday, pubs will open outdoors in Wales and an update on indoor opening is expected from First Minster Mark Drakeford at the end of this week. And on May 3, extended households will again allow two households to meet and have contact indoors.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said: "We can confirm that seven fixed penalty notices were issued to people who had illegally gathered at an address in Temgarth, Bridgend, in the early hours of Wednesday morning".
