GUWAHATI: After 18 days, seven out of the 19 labourers from Assam who went missing from a road project site of Border Roads Organisation project in Kurung Kumey district of Arunachal Pradesh were rescued on Saturday.

Officials said that the seven were spotted by villagers on Friday late evening. The health conditions of the seven rescued workers are stated to be very weak and currently being treated.

They have been without food and enough water for the past 18 days.

The search is on for the remaining 12 persons. The state government has engaged the Indian Air Force, SDRF and ITBP along with state police in the search and rescue operations. Local villagers and hunters are also helping in the operation.

The labourers were engaged in the construction of the BRO’s strategic Damin-Huri Road along the India-China border.
