Scotland is blessed not only with breathtaking scenery but also a plethora of golden, unspoilt beaches.
The warmer months are on the way and day trips are on our minds, and with the warm feeling of sand between our toes and the sound of lapping waves in our ears – there are few better places to be when the mercury soars.
Though with the hot weather usually in short supply, it might be time to make the most of them.
We've picked out some of our favourite beaches from around Scotland that are ideal to soak up the sun on those hotter days.
Portobello Beach, Edinburgh
Head to the capital for this fun beach, with its promenade lined with a selection of cafes, restaurants and ice cream shops.
Hugely popular with tourists, its close proximity to Edinburgh makes it easily accessible.
Coldingham Bay, The Borders
The South of Scotland deserves more coverage for its beautiful scenery, and in Coldingham Bay you'll find one of its most incredible beaches.
Known for its clean sands and historic beach huts, you can enjoy a walk up Homel Knoll, a steep, grassy hillock with a rewarding view at the top.
The beach is also a fun place to try wild swimming or catch the waves with some surfing.
Lunan Bay, Angus
Located on the dramatic Angus coastline, the beach at Lunan Bay is backed by sand dunes and features low cliffs to the north and south.
The long stretch of sand is perfect for long walks with the family and dog, and on a sunny day there are few better places to catch some rays.
Achmelvich Bay, Ullapool
Heading to the wild west coast on the Highlands is the best way to discover some truly unspoilt beaches and the natural wonder that is Achmelvich Beach is one of the best around.
Scarista Beach, Isle of Harris
The islands are a rich tapestry of stunning beaches, and one of our favourites has to be Scarista.
Located on the southwest coast of the Isle of Harris, you really will feel like you've been transported to tropical climes.
Camusdarach Beach, Arisaig
Boasting unrivalled views of the Isle of Skye, Rum and Eigg, this white sandy beach is surrounded by strikingly blue waters and is the perfect place to really take someone's breath away.
Girvan Beach, Ayrshire
A family favourite, this is a treat of a beach in Ayrshire, with a long stretch that's perfect for strolls and with panoramic views of Ailsa Craig as well as the Kintyre Peninsula, it's one of the most rewarding day trips around.
