Seven of the best blushes according to makeup artists

Time and time again makeup artists cite blush as the item in their makeup bag that they couldn’t live without - and I have to agree.

Yes, should it ever come down to it - heaven forbid - I would willingly toss my mascara, skin tints, bronzers and lipsticks to hang on to my blush collection.

Why? Because while flawless skin is fabulous, fluttery lashes fun, and a bold red lip spectacular for making an entrance, there’s something about colour in the cheeks that speaks to more important matters - like vitality, joy, charm, health and happiness.

A beautifully flushed cheek instantly lifts the face, adding depth, dimension, and an air of youth. And is there anything universally, prettier, more timeless or universally wholesome?

With this in mind, I called on a handful of makeup artist friends to share the blushes that they swear by. Here’s what they had to say.

((M)anasi 7)

For multitasking: (M)anasi 7 All Over Colour as recommended by Ninni Numela

“I’m a big fan of multi-use products, and a lip and cheek tint is a must-have in my own makeup bag. The (M)anasi 7 All Over Colour comes in beautiful shades and natural, cruelty-free formulas - perfect for a flushed cheek, tinted lid and stained lip.” (£39, manasi7.com)

(Tower 28)

For a glossy glow: Tower 28 BeachPlease Lip + Cheek Cream Blush as recommended by Zoe Taylor

“This Tower 28 Blush is so gorgeous and glossy. It works really well layered onto a base or straight onto skin, delivering a truly authentic flush.” (£20, sephora.co.uk)

(Danessa Myricks)

For a soft-focus finish: Danessa Myricks Yummy Skin Flushed Blurring Balm Powder as recommended by Lisa Potter-Dixon

“This is an amazing blush range for absolutely any skin tone, and a must in my kit – the balm-to-powder texture gives a beautiful flush with a soft-focus effect.” (£29.50, cultbeauty.co.uk)

(Dolce & Gabbana)

For multitasking: Dolce & Gabbana Cheek & Eyes Match as recommended by Naoko Scintu

“I love a product that is multipurpose, and this is suitable for both blush and eyeshadow looks. It blends seamlessly into the skin, mimicking the look and texture of real skin. ‘Joyful Peach’ is my go-to shade.(£44, harrods.com)

(RMS)

For a skin-mimicking flush: RMS Lip2Cheek in Illusive as recommended by Lynsey Alexander

“This gorgeous cream blush cleverly mimics the effect of a wholesome day outside in the sun, to create the perfect summer-scorched cheek.” (£35,rmsbeauty.com)

(Suqqu)

For flawless blending: Suqqu Pure Colour as recommended by Lisa Potter Dixon

“This is silky, luxe and blends like a dream. I’ve been using mine for ages and there’s no hint of the pan yet, so it’s definitely worth the price!” (£40,00, uk.suqqu.com)

(Rare Beauty)

For fabulous staying power: Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Blush as recommended by Zoe Taylor

“This Rare Beauty blush in shade ‘happy’ is the one I use most in my kit. It’s so beautiful, has great staying power and is easy to blend over your foundation.” (£26, spacenk.com)

(Chanel)

For seamless blending: Chanel Joues Contraste Intense Cream-To-Powder Blush as recommended by Ninni Numela

“I prefer using cream blushers because of their naturally radiant finish. They make it easy to mimic a healthy, youthful flush. This is a new favourite of mine. It seamlessly blends into the skin like a cream but has the staying power of a powder blush.” (£45, chanel.com)
