Seven more people die in North East hospitals as Covid-19 death toll reaches 36,675

Another seven people have died with Covid-19 in our region according to the latest death figures.

A total of 36,675 people had died in hospitals, care homes and the wider community after testing positive for coronavirus in the UK as of 5pm on Friday.

That's up by 282 from 36,393 the day before.

In the North East, seven more patients who tested positive for coronavirus and then died in hospital were counted among the latest NHS England figures.

The data was collected between 5pm on Thursday and 5pm on Friday but the deaths may have taken place in the days before this.

North Tees and Hartlepool - 2

Tees Esk and Wear Valleys - 0

In the 24-hour period up to 9am on Saturday, 116,585 tests were carried out or dispatched, with 2,959 positive results.

Overall a total of 3,348,507 tests have been carried out and 257,154 cases have been confirmed positive.
