Seven more patients die in North East hospitals after contracting coronavirus

Seven more people have died in North East hospitals after contracting coronavirus.

A total of 85 deaths were reported by NHS England on Sunday afternoon, taking the total number of Covid-19-related fatalities in England hospitals to 26,614.

Of these, 15 occurred on May 30, 31 were confirmed on May 29 and seven were reported on May 28.

The figures also show 22 of the new deaths took place between May 8 and May 27, nine occurred in April and the remaining one death took place on March 25.

In the North East, County Durham and Darlington reported the most deaths with four.

Meanwhile, concerns continued to be voiced over the Government's continued easing of the lockdown with several scientists advising the Government speaking out.

On Saturday, Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick announced that people who were shielding will be allowed to go outside either with their household or to meet one other person from Monday.
