Eight people were injured in a collision between a Citybus double-decker and a truck in Tsing Yi on Thursday, in yet another Hong Kong crash involving a bus.
Emergency personnel were called shortly after 10am to the smash on Tsing Yi Road West, Tsing Yi.
On impact, the truck continued to move forward for a short distance before ramming into a lamp post.
According to the Fire Services Department, four fire engines and six ambulances were sent to the scene.
Officers from the New Territories South traffic unit were investigating the cause of the accident.
According to Citybus, eight people were injured in the incident. The injured were the bus driver, six of his passengers and the truck driver. They requested hospital treatment.
The firm said the E21 bus was carrying about 20 passengers from Tai Kok Tsui to AsiaWorld-Expo at Chek Lap Kok on Lantau at the time.
Citybus said the double-decker passed its regular inspection last Friday.
The bus operator said it would cooperate with police to investigate into the cause of the incident.
A police spokesman said: “The injured were taken to Princess Margaret Hospital [in Kwai Chung] for treatment.”
It was the second bus crash within about 48 hours in Hong Kong.
On Tuesday, 77 people were injured when two double-deckers collided on Tsing Long Highway near the Tsuen Wan exit of Tai Lam Tunnel.
On the same highway on July 18, a bus driver died and 14 people were injured in a collision between a truck and a Citybus vehicle outside the Pat Heung exit of the tunnel.
Separately, a 30-year-old motorist escaped unscathed when his car crashed into a road sign and then overturned in Wai Yip Street, near Telford Gardens housing estate, in Kowloon Bay at 9.29am.
Police said the man passed a breathalyser test.
Police figures show that 50 people had died in 49 fatal traffic accidents across the city in the first half of this year.
