Seven injured after car crashes into church in Leeds city centre

A woman is in a critical condition and three children have been injured after a car crashed into a church building in Leeds city centre.

Police say a silver Peugeot left the road and crashed into the church on Regent Street shortly before midday.

A 26-year-old female passenger was taken to hospital in a critical condition while the driver and other passengers, two adults and a baby, received minor injuries.

Two children, who were on the pavement when the collision took place, also suffered minor injuries, reports LeedsLive.

A blue Audi was also involved in the collision and the driver, a 27-year-old-man, has been arrested on suspicion of driving whilst over the prescribed limit.

Officers say the road is still closed, and could be for some time while investigations continue.

West Yorkshire Police is appealing to any witnesses of the collision itself, or anyone who saw the vehicles prior to the collision, to come forward.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 or use the live chat facility at www.westyorkshire.police.uk/contact-us  quoting log number 669 of 29 September.

Information can be given to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
