In a survey run by the Mirror, respondents overwhelmingly voted in opposition to the government's decision to ease all restrictions.
More than 72% of 5,453 responses said that fewer restrictions should be lifted at this point, while 59% stated that they intended to continue wearing a mask in the same way that they wear a mask now, even once it becomes optional.
Over half of respondents said that the one-metre rule should be maintained and 21% even said that the two-metre rule should be reinstated.
When asked what one word they would use to describe their thoughts on the announcement, common responses included 'worried', 'happy', 'anxious' and 'disappointed'.
Readers took to the Mirror's comments sections to share their views.
Niloc H said: "Removing all of the few remaining restrictions now, whilst infections are soaring is reckless in the extreme.
"At a minimum the use of face masks indoors in public places (e.g. shops) and on public transport plus social distancing should be maintained.
"This would barely affect anyone and wouldn't affect the economy.
"Once again BoJo not listening to the scientists. Absolutely crazy from this lunatic who is somehow running our country - and yes, I am actually a Tory!"
Meanwhile ANev said: "What I find really silly about this is that he is going to do this at a time when people from all over the country go on holiday to other parts of the country [sic].
"As time and again there have been outbreaks of variants of Covid-19 in some parts of the country.
"That has lead to special measures being used to stop the spread.
"Also [sic] a lot of holiday destinations do not have the spare capacity to deal with such an outbreak when it comes to the NHS."
