Seven Hibs players whose contracts or loan deals could expire during Scottish football shut-down

The coronavirus postponement means uncertainty surrounds much of Scottish football at the minute.

When will matches return? What will become of our nearly-completed league season? Do we need to push the start of next season back?

However a huge degree of uncertainty also exists with regards the playing staff at each club, and particularly those who are out of contract.

There are a host of top players who are expected to leave their parent club in the coming months, while our game north of the border remains shut down.

So far as Hibs are concerned loan deals for Marc McNulty, Greg Docherty and Jason Naismith are all due to expire on May 31, while Stephane Omeonga's loan will be up on June 30.

However it's not just loan players who face an uncertain future should the league season be extended.

Vykintas Slivka's contract will expire on May 31 as will deals for Steven Whittaker and Adam Bogdan.

Whether or not Hibs will be able to call upon these players should the season be extended into July, August or September remains to be seen.

The Daily Record reported this morning that Scottish football might not even return until August, however this is quite clearly a fluid situation with clubs learning more every day.

Former Liverpool and Tottenham director of football Damien Comolli spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live last night about potential implications for clubs and players.

He reckons some clubs might need to draw up "special contracts" or shorter deals for players lasting just a month or two months.

Our colleagues at Football London also spoke to some agents about the whole situation. Their report suggests that loanees could have the option to sign extension waivers should games be played mid-summer, however pre-contract agreements and already completed deals should be unaffected.
