Seven held for fake negative Covid test reports in Mangaluru

MANGALURU: In separate incidents, a total of nine people, including three women, were caught trying to enter Mangaluru from Kerala with fake RT-PCR test reports over the past two days. While the women were allowed to return after they pleaded ignorance, the others were arrested.

Mangaluru city police commissioner N Shashi Kumar told reporters on Thursday four cases have been registered so far. Police arrested five people on Wednesday and two on Thursday. Of them, six are from Kasaragod and one from Mangaluru. Two are said to be students. One person who was instrumental in fabricating the documents has been taken into police custody and the police are trying to find out if he forged more such documents. Cases have been booked under various provisions of IPC and the Karnataka Epidemic Diseases Act. The city police will write to the Kasaragod district administration so that they can take necessary action against those involved in creating fake documents.

In these cases, the dates and names were forged and the QR codes did not match. Meanwhile, nearly 600 students, who presented original RT-PCR negative certificates, tested positive recently. TNN
