'Seven Garda cars' swarm Dublin area as coked up driver and knifeman arrested

As many as seven Garda cars swarmed a west Dublin area last night as two men were arrested in an intelligence-led operation.

The pair were quizzed in relation to the theft of a car from the Navan area on Sunday evening.

Gardai confirmed to Dublin Live that the driver of the vehicle tested positive for cocaine while one of the duo was also armed with a knife at the time.

Following reports of the stolen car in Meath, Blanchardstown officers spotted the suspected stolen vehicle, stopping it at a garage in the Mulhuddart area just before midnight on Sunday.

One eye-witness told Dublin Live: "About six or seven garda cars searched the car at the garage.

"It was pulled over well into midnight and it looked like Gardai had made a big discovery."

A Garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "The two occupants of the vehicle were searched and one of the men was found to be in possession of a knife.

"The driver of the vehicle was tested and found to be positive for cocaine.

"The men were arrested and taken to Blanchardstown Garda Station and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 and both men have since been charged."
