Seven-Eleven to provide 100,000 yen to all 21,000 stores in Japan

Seven-Eleven Japan Co. decided Tuesday to provide 100,000 yen to all of its 21,000 franchises as special thank-you gift. The company will also pay its employees 60,000 yen in QUO cards.

The company will spend about 3.3 billion yen to support stores burdened by the spread of the new coronavirus.

Other measures include waiving interest on loans extended by the head office to franchises for the time being, providing face shields that cover the entire face and 500 disposable vinyl gloves to every franchise.

Due to the spread of the virus, fewer customers are coming mainly to stores in office buildings that were closed, and sales at existing stores in March fell 3.2% from a year earlier.

"Close cooperation between franchisees and the head office is crucial to overcome this unprecedented crisis," a Seven-Eleven Japan executive said.
