Six celebrities you may not know were from originally from Glasgow

There's a lot of celebrities that were born in Glasgow yet very few people realise who they are.

This is usually because the films can involve them faking an American accent - but this is more of a compliment to the actors themselves having tricked us into thinking that they are actually from the US.

We're home to the birth-place of some of the world's favourite celebrities such as actors James McAvoy, David Tennant and Sam Heughan as well as comedian Kevin Bridges.

But even if you live in the city, there may be a few people that you didn't know were from Glasgow so we've selected a few people that you may not know.

Take a look at the list below and let us know about any Glasgow celebs we didn't know were from here.

David McCallum

First up is David McCallum, best known for his role as Dr. Donald "Ducky" Mallard on CBS television series NCIS.

McCallum was actually born in Glasgow believe it or not. The 87-year-old is maybe best known to others for his portrayal of U.N.C.L.E. agent Illya Kuryakin in the hit TV series The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Michelle Gomez

Next up we have Michelle May Romney Marsham Antonia Gomez.

Doctor Who fans will recognise Gomez straight away for her portrayal as Missy on the sci-fi series which first aired back in November 1963.

The 54-year-old has also appeared as a regular in Netflix's The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and most recently, The Flight Attendant alongside The Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco.

Tony Curran

Remember the Van Gogh episode on Doctor Who that made everyone cry?

Well Curran being the great actor that he is portrayed Vincent van Gogh in the sci-fi television series. The episode was rated by Screen Rant as the best of Smith's time as the Doctor and it's not surprising to see why.

Curran also made an appearance in the Doctor Who episode 'The Pandorica Opens'.

Other non-Doctor Who roles include Underworld: Evolution and Netflix's historical Outlaw King.

Graham McTavish

McTavish is best known for his role as Dwalin in The Hobbit film trilogy, Dracula in the Netflix's animated series Castlevania and Dougal Mackenzie in the Starz series Outlander.

He is also known for his roles in the video game franchise Uncharted as the main antagonist Zoran Lazarević in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Charlie Cutter in Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception.

The 60-year-old (we don't believe it either) has recently appeared in the Netflix hit film Blood Red Sky.

You can find out everything about the film below.

Raymond Park

The 47-year-old, soon to be 48-year-old (happy almost birthday), is best known for playing Darth Maul in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, Solo: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

In addition to these big roles, he's also portrayed Toad in X-Men and has been seen in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and G.I. Joe: Retaliation as Snake Eyes.

Rory McCann

Ahhh Game of Thrones.

It feels like forever ago since the hit HBO television series ended.

If you didn't know, the Scots-born actor portrayed Sandor "The Hound" Clegane in GoT as well as Michael "Lurch" Armstrong in crime-comedy Hot Fuzz.

He also played Jurgen the Brutal in Jumanji: The Next Level.

Kevin McKidd

Bit of a cheat here because he wasn't exactly born in Glasgow - he was actually born in Elgin.

A lot of people don't know he's Scottish and it came as a shock to many so we just had to add it in.

Did you know this?

He's best known for his role in Grey's Anatomy as Dr Owen Hunt as well as crossover show, Station 19.

In addition to these roles, he has also portrayed Tommy in Trainspotting, Father Deegan in Father Ted, Poseidon in Percy Jackson & the Lightning Thief as well as voicing Brave characters Lord MacGuffin and Young MacGuffin.
