KORAPUT: Seven persons were arrested on Saturday in connection with a mob attack on a team from Kakrigumma police station following the death of a biker in an accident near Baiguda railway station.
The police team had gone to the spot to probe the accident. “All the seven persons were arrested and will be produced in court,” said SP (Koraput) Varun Gunthapalli.
Police sources said around 3.30 pm on Friday, a call was received at the Kakrigumma police station about the accident. “The injured, Lalit Kamar, was lying unconscious in a pool of blood and in an attempt to save him our men shifted him to SLN Medical College and Hospital. But he died on wayl,” the SP said.
But a group of 10 to 15 women and 50 to 60 men armed with lathis started abusing and attacking police as why the victim was being shifted to the hospital without the villager’s consent. Two policemen were injured. Additional force brought the situation under control.
