Seven arrested after Bold Street attack leaves man fighting for his life

Seven men were arrested after a shocking attack in Liverpool city centre left a man fighting for his life.

The 27-year-old victim, from Northern Ireland, is believed to have been walking down Bold Street towards Hanover Street with three friends when they were assaulted.

He was found unconscious on the floor outside Liverpool Central Station in the early hours of Saturday morning, August 14.

Police had initially said the victim was 24, but later clarified his age.

In an update today, Merseyside Police confirmed seven men have now been arrested connection with the incident.

A 40-year-old man from Pontypridd was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault and possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

Six other men, aged between 33 and 41 and from South Wales, have also been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, in relation to suspected cocaine found in a hotel room.

The victim, who was visiting the city with family, was taken to hospital after suffering serious head injuries during the attack.

His condition is described as critical but stable.

The bottom of Bold Street was sealed off by police on Saturday and businesses inside the cordon remained closed all day while officers worked at the scene.

The investigation continues and enquiries and detectives are still keen to speak to any taxi drivers from the nearby Hackney cab rank on Hanover Street, in case they have vital dashcam footage.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Parry, said: “Although several arrests have been made, our investigation continues are we’d still like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or has any CCTV, dashcam or other information.
