Seven adults and dog shot dead after gunman opens fire and then goes on the run

Seven adults have been left dead in a late night shooting.

Police discovered the bodies in a house in Valhermoso Springs in Alabama, USA at 11.35pm on Thursday after reports of gunfire.

They arrived to find part of the property in Talucah Road on fire, WBRC.com reports.

It is understood that four men and three women were killed, some of whom were shot multiple times.

Neighbours raised the alarm and called 911 after hearing gunshots over the course of an hour, according to police.

The victims were found inside the home after emergency services brought the fire under control.

No survivors were found and a dog was also killed, officers from Morgan County police say.

Two of the male victims have been identified as Jeramy Wade Roberts, 31, and William Zane Hodgin, 18.

The force says it believes the attack was targetted and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.

A homicide investigation is ongoing as the police search for suspects.

Speaking on Thursday evening, Morgan County Sheriff's Department spokesman Mike Swafford said the force has asked for assistance to "process" the horrific scene.

"We have called in assistance from the Madison County Sheriff's Crime Scene Unit, they’ll partner with ours to process the scene," he said.

"Our agencies are very capable but any time there are multiple bodies, it is a substantial task, so we’ll be out here for the rest of the night and most of tomorrow."
