Settlement? What settlement, Blake Lively goes after Justin Baldoni again in court on Monday

A legal matter involving Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni has resurfaced in court following a recent settlement that failed to completely close outstanding financial and procedural questions between the parties. Fresh filings have brought both sides back before a judge, as unresolved issues connected to legal costs and compensation remain to be reviewed in association with the long-running case.

Judge Orders June 1 Hearing on Fees and Legal Costs

As per the NewsNation, Judge Lewis Liman has directed representatives for Lively and Wayfarer Studios to appear at a June 1 hearing. The court will examine whether Lively can recover attorneys’ fees, litigation costs, and damages, despite the earlier announced settlement.

The hearing follows what had been broadly viewed as the end of the almost 18-month dispute, but the judge has currently required additional written submissions before making a determination.

Court instructions suggest that both sides must clarify whether legal protections designed for individuals reporting sexual misconduct enable reimbursement claims in this case.

Statutory Interpretation Still Under Review

A major unresolved concern involves the applicability of a California statute referenced by Lively’s legal team.

The wider legal conflict started with a $400 million countersuit filed by Baldoni against Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, which was dismissed previous year. Although that countersuit was rejected, the court did not issue a final interpretation of the statute central to Lively’s current claims.

That gap in legal clarity has currently become the focus of the forthcoming hearing.

Lively has reportedly also filed a motion arguing she qualifies as a prevailing defendant under California Civil Code Section 47.1, seeking reimbursement for costs associated to the case.

Legal Commentary on Case Developments

Outside legal observers have remained to weigh in on the case’s trajectory. Defense attorney Mark Geragos criticized aspects of the proceedings in a television presence.

“One of the reasons they instantly settled is because, if you read the judge’s order, the lawyers for Lively had committed egregious — I think, in my opinion — errors that the judge pointed out,”

Geragos stated, referring to jurisdiction-related issues emphasized earlier in the case.

Settlement Did Not Resolve Financial Outcomes

Neither party received a financial payout. Both sides reportedly incurred significant legal expenses throughout the extended dispute.

Despite the agreement, financial liability and reimbursement questions remain unresolved and are now central to the court’s next decision.

Ongoing Public Attention

The case continues to attract public scrutiny, with both parties facing sustained media attention as legal filings progress. The dispute has also sparked discussion around its impact on reputations and professional projects connected to the individuals involved.

FAQs:
