Settings in skate. You Should Change Right Now

After a long, long wait, skate. has finally arrived. And, to be honest, not much has changed, at least in terms of how the game controls. However, there are some in-game settings that might be worth changing for a better experience, depending on what you’re looking for.

Mind you, these settings are not meant to improve performance — they are simply meant to streamline a few things or ensure that your gameplay isn’t disrupted by a setting you may find frustrating. If you are on PC and have questions about performance, check out the system requirements for each graphical setting.

Turn Off Motion Blur

Most ardent gamers have discovered that motion blur pretty much universally sucks. It’s just an added visual filter that purposefully degrades the image for the sake of… I honestly don’t know. Sure, in real life, a lot of rapid motion would blur your peripheral vision. That said, in a video game where it presents a disadvantage, why anyone would prefer it toggled on is beyond me.

So yeah, switch that off. This can be done by going to Settings, selecting Graphics, and then toggling off Motion Blur Quality.

Sorry Vee, But You Gotta Go

Vee — the AI bot that tracks you when playing and attempts to give you some sense of direction — has been a pretty controversial aspect of skate. since players started getting early looks at the gameplay. I hate to feed into the negativity, but yeah, I kind of agree.

Kinda like how Reda was viewed as being annoying in the first few games, Vee isn’t much better. So, if you’re not a fan of the constant quips and attempts at humor, switch her off in the Audio settings.

Don’t Push Mongo, You Noob

In case anybody reading wasn’t too entrenched, “pushing mongo” — or using your front foot to push when on your board — is not a good thing. Not only is it frowned upon, but it actually puts you at a disadvantage when attempting to do tricks and such. Because of this, it’s best you never do it.

skate. offers the player the freedom to push mongo, should you choose to do so. But, depending on the controls you choose, you can avoid it pretty easily. If you wish to use the Classic controller settings, the A button (or X button on a PlayStation controller) will trigger a push with your front foot (mongo), while the X button (or Square on a PlayStation controller) will trigger a push with your back foot. Should you wish to change that, you’ll have to go to either Experienced (which switches the two) or use the Streamlined controls to automatically push when holding up on your left stick.

You can also independently toggle on the ability to push with the left stick, though it will only trigger a medium push, denying you speed. I’d recommend playing around with the controls to find one that works for you.

Keep The Camera Still

Some people like a camera effect shake in a video, others don’t. I fit into the latter category. Again, this is an online-only game, so you’re presumably more concerned with keeping your visuals steady to have a better grasp on where the momentum is taking you. For this purpose, I’ve disabled Camera Shake.

There are actually two Camera Shake options in skate — one for when you’re on your board, and another for when you’re off it. I’ve turned both to 0 because, as I mentioned before, I don’t like any kind of needless visual effect when playing an online game.

To disable Camera Shake, go to Settings, Gameplay, and then tab over to Advanced Camera. Under the On-Board VFX section, decrease the Camera Shake Intensity amount to 0 (or whatever you prefer). The same can be applied to Off-Board VFX directly below it.
