Seth Rogen is in talks to star in James Franco’s adaptation of The Disaster Artist, a first-hand account of the making of cult bad movie The Room.
According to The Tracking Board, Franco will direct and star as Tommy Wiseau, the star and director of The Room. Franco’s brother Dave will take on the role of Greg Sistero, who starred alongside Wiseau and co-wrote the book The Disaster Artist. Rogen, who is producing the project, is interested in an undisclosed role.
The Room is a 2003 drama about a love triangle between a man, his fiancée and his best friend, that became a cult hit, thanks to its wooden acting and clunky dialogue. The low-budget drama became a midnight-movie staple, with screenings around the world, a tie-in video game, and celebrity fans such as Paul Rudd and Kristen Bell.
Its troubled and eccentric production is detailed in The Disaster Artist. Wiseau’s inexperience as a director led to daily on-set problems, with actors storming off set and script rewrites happening during the shoot. But Sistero and Wiseau became unlikely friends despite the production problems.
Rogen is the subject of Oscar buzz for his role in Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs, and will next be seen in Christmas comedy The Night Before, as well as Zeroville, a Hollywood-based drama also directed by Franco.
The pair have worked on a number of projects before, including This Is the End, The Interview and Pineapple Express.
