Setback for BS Yediyurappa and family as Karnataka HC restores graft complaint

BENGALURU: In a setback to BS Yediyurappa, the Karnataka HC has restored a complaint of corruption in which the former chief minister, his son BY Vijayendra, other family members and ex-cabinet colleagues have been arraigned as accused. The private complaint was lodged by social activist TJ Abraham, seeking investigation into alleged instances of corruption cited by him when Yediyurappa was the chief minister.

A special court for cases pertaining to elected representatives had rejected Abraham’s complaint on the ground that the governor had refused to sanction Yediyurappa’s prosecution on an application filed by the complainant. Abraham challenged the said order.

In his complaint, Abraham had alleged that a bribe of Rs 12 crore had been paid in relation to the revival of a BDA housing project in favour of M/s Ramalingam Constructions Private Limited and also illegal collection of around Rs 17.5 crore in cash on behalf of Yediyurappa by his close family members through several shell companies.
