Setanta Sports Cup photo gallery from the old all-Ireland competition

As the debate surrounding a new all-island football league continues, we thought we would delve into the archives.

The Setanta Sports Cup brought together teams from the Irish League and League of Ireland to battle it out for all-Ireland glory.

Teams played each other in group stages before progressing to a knockout phase.

It ran from 2005 until it was shelved in 2015 after concerns were raised over the scheduling of fixtures.

Linfield beat Shelbourne 2-0 to win the inaugural Setanta back in 2005, and also reached the final in 2007 when they lost on penalties to Drogheda.

Crusaders also won it in 2012 when they beat Derry City on penalties, while Glentoran were beaten finalists in 2008 when they lost out to Cork City.

The last final was in 2014 when Sligo Rovers beat Dundalk 1-0.
