SET fails to set record, retreats after testing 1,700

The Stock Exchange of Thailand continued to test 1,700 for the second trading day on Monday but retreated after failing to beat the record last seen in 1994.

The SET closed down 3.75 points, or 0.22%, to 1,692.22. After opening at 1,700.13, the index continued to slide. It briefly made the day’s high at 1,700.17 at 11.53am before plunging to close the day at the low of 1,691.82.

It was the second trading day the main index tested the key level.  

Total trading value was 47.9 billion baht, with 22.3 billion shares changed hands.

SET50 index retreated 0.17%, or 1.81 points, to 1,079.82 in trade worth 47.9 billion baht.

MAI dropped 0.70%, or 4.01 points, to 570.93 in transactions worth 2.9 billion baht.
