A police inspector has been charged with assaulting a man during an arrest in Birkenhead.
Inspector Andrew Minnery, 46, a serving member of Merseyside Police, is accused of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and attempting to pervert the course of justice. Two more police constables, Kenny Gibson, 29, and Pc Steve Cotton, also face a single charge of perverting the course of justice.
The three officers, who are serving members of the force, were charged following a complaint made by a man who alleged he had been assaulted in Birkenhead on March, 6 2020.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced it had charged the officers following an investigation by police watchdog the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
All three officers are due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, March 25.
