Services between Glasgow and Edinburgh cancelled after person hit by train

A person has been hit by a train on one of Scotland's busiest lines.

Services between Glasgow Central and Edinburgh have been disrupted as a result of the incident.

The person was struck by a train between Bellshill and Shotts at around 5pm today, December 9.

Trains via Shotts on the Glasgow to Edinburgh line will only operate between the capital and West Calder.

ScotRail announced the sad news on their official Twitter account.

A statement read: "Sadly, due to a person having been struck by a train between Bellshill  and Shotts, our Glasgow Central to Edinburgh via Shotts route is closed.

"More info soon."

A later update informed rush hour commuters that train services on that line would 'operate between Edinburgh and West Calder only'.

The change affects services running in both directions.
