Libya’s Ministry of Interior in the Government of National Accord announced that it had taken over the security of Tripoli port from armed militias.

In its statement, the Serraj Ministry of Interior said that “Within the established security arrangements, the security and guarding of Tripoli port was handed over by the Nawasi Battalion to the Office for Guarding Vital Objectives of the General Directorate of Central Security using the specialized professional police.”

The Ministry of Interior added that “these security arrangements will have a positive impact on the country and the citizen by demonstrating security. This can only be achieved through the intensification of all the security services and the cooperation of the citizen who is at the center of these arrangements.”

Earlier, UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame said that Sarraj Government has created a new Security Arrangements Committee and established new security measures.

“The Libyan House of Representatives demands all security agencies take their responsibilities and perform their duties to search the deputy chief and his son, and open an investigation into the incident fast,” a statement said.

The statement added, “The Libyan House of Representatives condemns the kidnapping of the Deputy Chief of Intelligence, Ahmad al-Arebi, and his son on Tuesday morning by unknown men, who took him to an unidentified location.”

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte invited French President Emmanuel Macron to participate in the international conference on Libya to be hosted in Palermo on 12-13 Oct.
