Seriously injured driver cut from car after horror crash near Inverness

A driver had to be cut free from his car after being seriously injured in a horror crash near Inverness.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the southbound carriageway of the A9 near the Raigmore interchange, Inshes, at about 4.15pm on Monday following reports of a one-vehicle collision.

The male driver of a white Honda was rushed to Raigmore Hospital after the vehicle left the carriageway, with medics describing his condition as serious.

He was the only person involved in the incident.

Scottish Fire and Rescue mobilised three pumps and a heavy rescue unit to the smash, with officials confirming that hydraulic cutting gear was used.

The A9 southbound has been closed as a result of the crash.

Pictures from the scene shows a wrecked sports car with its entire front end crumpled by the force of the collision.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 4.05 pm on Monday, 13 July, 2020, police and emergency services were called to a single vehicle road crash on the southbound carriageway of the A9 at Inshes, Inverness.

"One vehicle, a white Honda Integra, left the carriageway.

"The male driver, who was alone in the car, was taken by ambulance to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness where medical staff describe his condition as serious.

"Enquires in to the crash are continuing  and the A9 southbound is shut between Raigmore Interchange and Inshes flyover. The road remains closed to allow officers  to carry out their enquiries."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "We were in attendance at a one-vehicle road traffic collision on the A9 around 4.15pm on Monday July 12, 2020.

"Three pumps and a heavy rescue unit were mobilised to the scene, where hydraulic cutting gear was in use."

Traffic Scotland also tweeted: "Congestion is tailing back towards the Longman Roundabout."
