Seriously ill woman, 25, stuck in Thai hospital with mystery illness given permission to fly home today

A Barrhead woman is finally allowed to fly home after being struck down with a serious mystery illness in Thailand.

As reported on Glasgow Live, Rebekah Fulton, 25, has been stranded in a hospital on the island of Phuket, where she is fighting a serious viral infection in her brain, since April 8.

Dad James Geddes, flew out to south east Asia to be by his daughter's bedside and launched an online fundraiser in a desperate appeal for help from Glaswegians.

He has since raised over £25,000 and being given permission from Thai hospital staff, who have had to sign off on a fitness to fly certificate, to bring the 25-year-old home for treatment in Scotland.

Heatwave continues in Glasgow with record-breaking Easter Monday temperatures forecast

Posting on the Go Fund Me page, dad James said: "I thought I’d let everyone know that the medical team have taken over Rebekah’s care and her fitness to fly certificate was signed off by the doctor in Phuket yesterday afternoon.

"All being well today, we are looking at a flight later tonight or early tomorrow with Rebekah being transferred by ambulance to hospital on our return.

"Once again I’d like to thank everyone for their support throughout this very difficult time for Rebekah and I will provide further updates when I can."
