Serious sex attack on young woman in Clydebank sparks police appeal

Police have launched an investigation after a young woman was seriously sexually assaulted in Clydebank at the weekend.

The 23-year-old was attacked in a lane off Alexander Street, adjacent to a cafe, at around 1.30am on Saturday morning.

Now officers investigating the incident have made a public appeal for information.

Detective Inspector Scott Hamilton, of Clydebank police office explained that a 21-year-old man has been arrested, but appealed for a couple spotted in the area to contact him.

He said: “Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what happened but we believe this was an isolated incident.

“We are eager to trace a couple who were seen in the area at the time. They were both dressed in black and the woman had blonde hair.

"We believe they may have vital information that will help with our investigation."

Contact police on 101 with information or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
