The busy road was subsequently closed to traffic in both directions for a number of hours from Whitecraigs Station to Broomvale Drive while police conducted their enquiries into the crash.

The closure has also forced First Glasgow to divert their number 38 bus services.

The road has since reopened to traffic.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Around 9.50am on Saturday, 19 February, officers were called to a report of a road crash involving one car on Ayr Road, Newton Mearns. A man has been taken to hospital following the crash."
