Serious road crash closes A75 in both directions near Dumfries

A serious road crash has closed a major road in the south-west of Scotland on Friday night.

The A75 was closed in both directions close to Lochfoot, around three miles west of Dumfries.

Traffic Scotland said: "The A75 is currently closed in both directions in Lochfoot due to a road traffic incident.

"Motorists are advised to use available signed diversion route and should allow extra time for their journey.”

Local diversions were put in place.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said that three appliances had attended the scene after the call came in at 3.35pm.

The A75 is the main route between Stranraer and Dumfries.

Some sections are dual carriageway while some are just two lanes.

A later Traffic Scotland tweet said: "#A75 remains closed in both directions at Lochfoot due to an serious RTC.

“The road is likely to remain closed for some time.”

There is no word yet on any injuries.
