Serious road accident involving pedestrian closes part of A82 near Inverness

A serious road accident involving a vehicle and pedestrian has closed part of the A82.

Emergency services rushed to the scene between Drumnadrochit and Inverness at around 1.15pm on Friday.

The road remains closed and a 26 mile diversion is currently in place.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "We were called around 1.15pm to a report of a serious road traffic collision on the A82 involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. Road is closed. No other details at present."

Meanwhile, it has been revealed that a German tourist died after a minibus crashed with a water tanker in Argyll and Bute in an incident which also left eight others injured.

It happened at about 12.15pm on the A82 near Bridge of Orchy on Wednesday with a 54-mile diversion put in place.

Two helicopters and six ambulances were sent to the crash which shut the road for 11 hours, with the eight injured people taken to hospital.

However the German man, aged 30, died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

Chief Inspector Darren Faulds said: "Our inquiries continue to understand the full circumstances of what happened.

"Sadly one person died and several others were seriously injured, and our thoughts are with their families and friends.

"We would ask anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who may have dash-cam footage, and has not yet spoken to or provided this information to officers, to contact us as soon as possible.

"We would also like to thank members of the public for their patience while we carried out our investigation work into this serious collision.

"The road was closed for 11 hours and there was a long diversion in place."
