Serious police warning to Leeds United fans ahead of Preston North End clash

West Yorkshire Police have issued a plea to Leeds United fans who are driving to today's match at home to Preston North End.

The Whites are looking to keep pace with league leaders West Brom when they host fifth-placed Preston in the 5.15pm kick off.

It's expected to be a near-capacity crowd for the Boxing Day fixture, but a number of supporters have been targeted by thieves during matches this year.

The issue doesn't come inside the ground though. Instead, cars on surrounding roads have been broken into and in some cases even stolen while unsuspecting fans are inside Elland Road.

More people than usual are expected to drive to the match today as .

With that in mind, the force has reminded fans to be extra careful.

A tweet from the dedicated West Yorkshire Police team who manage matchdays said: "If you are driving to today’s #lufc #pnefc game don’t leave any of your [Christmas presents] on show!

"We are still receiving reports of cars being targeted during games in streets surrounding #ellandroad #dontleavevaluablesonshow #carcrime."

The reverse fixture in in October saw Preston and Leeds play out a 1-1 draw at Deepdale, with Eddie Nketiah’s clever header salvaging a point late on for Leeds.

In the build-up to today's game, Lilywhites boss Alex Neil has been full of praise for Marcelo Bielsa's side and said: "Leeds are probably the hardest team to stop in this division in terms of how they play."
