Drivers are being warned to expect delays after a serious crash on one of Scotland’s busiest motorways.
Emergency services were called to the scene on the eastbound carriageway of junction 12 on the M8 at around 7am on Friday.
Rush-hour travellers were caught up in the chaos with cars being diverted off the roadway and back on using the slip roads at the Cumbernauld Road Interchange.

Traffic Scotland warned that motorists were already facing almost 30 minute delays in the area and that the road would likely remain closed for “some time”.
In a series of tweets, they said: “M8 eastbound J12 closed due to an RTC. Emergency services and TRISS are on scene. Traffic heavy on approach.”
Around 25 minutes later, they added: “M8 eastbound remains CLOSED at J12 between the slips.
“Traffic is being taken off the carriageway at J12 and back on again, delays approx 10 mins back to J13 at present.”
A third tweet read: “#M8 eastbound J12 remains CLOSED due to an RTC. It may be closed for some time for investigation work.
“Traffic is being diverted off and back on at J12, delays approx 25 mins at present with queues back to J14.”
The closed section of the motorway reopened shortly before 8.30am but traffic currently remains heavy in the surrounding area.
