Serious crash in Castlemilk leaves police car overturned and passengers trapped

A police car has overturned following a serious crash in Castlemilk.

Emergency services are currently on the scene of the incident involving two cars on Carmunnock Road at Lainshaw Drive.

It's believed some passengers had to be cut free from the vehicles which were left badly damaged following the crash at 5.40pm.

Two fire engines and four ambulances are currently on the scene and traffic diversions are in place.

An eyewitness told Glasgow Live that the cars collided when the police vehicle drove through a red light while on the way to an emergency.

A man in the second vehicle had to be cut free by firefighters but a young male passenger is not thought to be injured.

It's believed that three officers were in the police car at the time. It's not known if any were injured.

A spokesperson for Scottish Fire and Rescue confirmed that two fire engines have been sent to the incident.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Officers are in attendance after a crash involving a police car and another car at Carmunnock Road, Glasgow which happened at 5.40pm.  Diversions are currently in place."
