Serious assault outside Galway restaurant leaves man injured as gardai launch investigation

A man has been seriously injured after an assault outside a Galway restaurant.

The assault happened outside The Square restaurant in Mountbellew, Ballinasloe.

One man was taken to hospital after the shocking assault.

A statement from An Garda Siochana said: "Gardai in Ballinasloe are appealing for witnesses in relation to a serious assault that occurred in Mountbellew, Co Galway in the early hours of this morning, Sunday December 12, 2021 at 1.15am.

"It is understood a male, aged in his 20s, was seriously injured during an altercation with a second male in The Square, Mountbellew at 1.15am this morning. He is currently in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin where his condition is described as serious.

"Gardai are appealing to any person who may have witnessed this incident to come forward. Gardai are appealing to anyone who was socialising in Mountbellew on Saturday night, December 11, 2021 and who noticed any unusual activity to contact investigating gardai.

"Any persons who were in The Square, Mountbellew between 12.45am and 1.30am this morning, Sunday December 12, 2021 should contact gardai.

"Anyone with any information in relation to this matter is asked to contact Ballinasloe Garda Station on 090 963 1890, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
