Serious assault leaves man in hospital after his attacker forced his way into a flat

A man forced his way into a property and attacked the occupant's hand in a terrifying assault.

Police are now appealing for information after the 45-year-old man suffered a serious injury in the attack, which took place on Sunday morning.

At around 9.30am a man forced his way into a flat in James Street, Ayr, and attacked the occupant who was taken to Ayr Hospital before being transferred to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

The motive for the attack is currently unknown.

The attacker is described as around 5 ft. 9/10 inches in height and was wearing a blue baseball cap and black scarf covering his face.

Officers say they have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries and are checking CCTV from around the area.

Detective Constable Janet Ferguson said: “A man has been left with a very serious hand injury and it’s imperative we trace the man responsible.

"At this time, we do not know the motive for the attack but we are in the process of establishing why it took place.

"I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time to contact us, perhaps you were on your way to the local shop for your Sunday paper or out walking your dog. Please, if you have any information, do call us. Small details could prove vital in our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call CID officers at Ayr Police Station via 101, quoting incident number 1484 of September 29 2019.  Alternatively, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
