Games-related events in Tokyo are being canceled amid the pandemic, with just over a month to go until the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics.

Sumida Ward has decided to cancel the Community Live Site, which includes public viewing and all related events during the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, that was scheduled to be held at Tokyo Skytree's commercial facility Tokyo Skytree Town.

Earlier this month, the Tokyo metropolitan government canceled the Tokyo 2020 Live Site planned for Yoyogi Park in Shibuya Ward.

The Musashino city government has also asked the metropolitan government to stop the installation of the Tokyo 2020 Live Site that includes public viewing areas and performances at Inokashira Park.

Furthermore, the Chofu city government decided Wednesday to cancel its public viewing event.

According to Sumida Ward, it had planned to set up a special outdoor venue for public viewing during the Olympics and Paralympics and was expecting up to 400 visitors at a time. The ward decided to cancel the event in light of the infection situation where no spectators at the competition venues is being considered.
