Serie A return date set as Leeds United wait on EFL decision

Serie A have set a provisional date to resume the current season.

The Italian top-flight are hoping to return to action on June 13, confirming the target date in an official statement.

Serie A bosses met with representatives from all 20 clubs on Wednesday to discuss plans to continue the current campaign, just like the EFL did with Championship clubs.

And after positive discussions, it was decided Italy's top division would aim for a return to action exactly a month from today (Wednesday).

That means Cristiano Ronaldo, Aaron Ramsey and co could be back on your screens by the middle of next month.

Though, plans do remain subject to approval from the Italian government.

Italy has had more than 220,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus with more than 30,000 deaths.

However, the Italian government have confirmed that restaurants, bars and salons will be allowed to reopen from next week.

Prime minister Giuseppe Conte is allowing restrictions to be lifted from May 18.

Serie A hope those changes will allow clubs to find ways for players to return to training safely ahead of a potential return to full action on June 13.

Elsewhere on the continent, Bundesliga will return this weekend while in France, Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 seasons have been cancelled altogether.

The likes of England and Spain are still discussing how their leagues can return safely.
