Serie A defender makes Tottenham transfer admission ahead of summer window

Atalanta defender Timothy Castagne has revealed his ambition to join Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

The 24-year-old has made 84 appearances for Atalanta since making the move from Genk in 2017, scoring eight goals in the process, while he has also clocked up seven caps for Belgium since making his international debut in 2018.

Castagne has just one year remaining on his contract in Serie A, and has previously suggested a move could be on the cards for him this summer.

The right-back said as recently as May that he would ‘lead towards England’ if the opportunity presented itself.

Spurs could well be in the market for a new right-back when the transfer window opens, given the uncertainty surrounding Serge Aurier’s future in North London.

And the perfect candidate may have presented themselves, with Castagne issuing a come get me plea.

Mourinho plays down suggestions of rift with Ndombele

"I think the time has come to move on, but I won't be disappointed if I stay in Bergamo,” Castagne told Belgian outlet La Derniere Heure.

"I'm very proud of this. It's proof that hard work pays off. I hope it's more than just simple interest from them.

"You have to be honest with yourself. When a team like PSG or Tottenham come knocking on your door, you can't say 'no'."

The PSG links could prove to be a hurdle for Spurs if they are to try and pursue a move for Castagne.

The French champions are also likely to be in the market for a new right-back this summer, after fellow Belgian Thomas Meunier left the club to join Borussia Dortmund.

One thing that might not impress Spurs fans too much is the fact that Castagne was apparently an Arsenal fan in his youth, although he seems to have moved on from the Gunners now.

"I was especially a fan when Thierry Henry played for them. Now I’m not so much,” he added.
