A serial sex offender jailed for abusing young girls has been sentenced to a further three years in prison for raping a woman inside his car after she asked him for help.

Edmund Akkary, 35, who has been in prison since October 2019, has been convicted of sexual offending against five victims.

He was jailed for nine-and-a-half years in 2020 for abusing four girls, aged 12 to 16, in regional Victoria between 2014 and 2017.

Akkary was sentenced over a February 2019 rape in Melbourne's County Court on Wednesday, after a jury found him guilty.

The victim had asked Akkary for help after her neighbour became abusive, as she needed a lift to a friend's house.

Akkary drove the woman to an isolated industrial estate in Geelong, where he grabbed her and raped her inside his car.

She tried to escape, but said she could not get away as he overpowered her.

"He could have just driven me to my friend's place and helped me that night, but instead he targeted my vulnerability to physically overpower me and commit a horrible crime against me," his victim said, in a statement read to court.

Akkary drove the woman to her friend's house and let her go.

He appeared by video link from prison as Judge Gavan Meredith sentenced him to another three years for the rape, bringing his total sentence to 12 years and five months.

"Your offending constituted you taking advantage of the complainant when she was vulnerable in your vehicle after she had sought help," Judge Meredith said.

Akkary will be eligible for parole after serving eight years.
