Serial Scots rapist launches bid for freedom as victims left disgusted

Victims of a serial rapist jailed for a horrific catalogue of abuse have told of their disgust after he launched a bid for freedom.

Paul Hill, 55, was convicted of raping four women and carrying out a string of assaults in Aberdeen and Dundee over a 22-year period.

The former bouncer, from Ayr, also killed the pets of three of his victims.

Last month he was jailed for 15 years.

Now two of his victims have spoken out after Hill lodged an appeal against his conviction and sentence.

One woman – who Hill was convicted of abducting, assaulting and raping between January 1987 and May 1988 –said: “I heard about the appeal and was really upset about it.

“I went to court to tell the truth about what he did to me.

“Reliving everything was horrific and terrifying. I couldn’t eat for two days and felt sick for weeks before and after it too.

“He’s evil and I just hope his sentence and conviction stands. The fact he has appealed shows that he has no remorse.”

Another victim, who Hill was convicted of assaulting and raping in 1988, said: “For me, it’s the fact he’s unwilling to accept any responsibility for what he has done and obviously believes his behaviour was OK.

“His crimes have finally caught up with him. You’d think he’d take that on the chin and serve his sentence but he continues to maintain his innocence.

“He is deluded. All these women who have never met and are spread out across different parts of the country say similar things about our experiences with him.

“He has appealed because he is controlling and was unable to control the outcome of the trial.

“Prison is where he should be and I hope he dies in there. It’s nothing short of what he deserves.”

Hill’s trial heard how he drowned a former partner’s pet parakeet, killed another’s kitten, threw a third girlfriend’s cat out of a window and threatened to harm his own Alsatian dog when a fourth woman told him she was leaving him.

The dad-of-three raped one woman a fortnight after she gave birth and had internal stitches.

He lodged special defences saying all the sexual episodes he faced charges over were consensual.

Hill also claimed he acted in self-defence when he strangled a 59-year-old gran until her face turned purple after drunkenly shouting: “I’m a killing machine,” at a Christmas party.

Sentencing Hill at the High Court in Glasgow last month, judge Lord Mulholland told him:“You used coercive, controlling behaviour.

“You abused and belittled them. You harmed their pets as a way of punishing them.

“Your behaviour was cruel and despicable.”

Hill, who appeared in court via a video link, was also placed on the sex offenders’ register.

The Court of Criminal Appeal in Edinburgh confirmed Hill had lodged an appeal against his sentence and conviction.
